Standing for the County Council

Following the defeat in June of long time sitting Councillor, John Metcalf, and the subsequent death of his Tory successor, Martin Heywood, the Labour Party in Hertsmere have selected me to represent them in the forthcoming Bye-Election on the 22nd October.

Now having retired from Hertsmere Borough Council politics after 10 years due to a number of things, (we had thought of moving away, my family needed to be first for a while and will remain a priority and my eldest daughter getting married) I felt that the timing was right to submit myself, electorally and with my wife's approval, again so that the people of Borehamwood North could have experienced representation to help them with any Council related issues that need to be sorted out.

My Tory opponent is former congregational Rabbi and still Elstree and Borehamwood Emeritus Rabbi, Alan Plancey, a man of experience in helping the local Jewish Community but politically a novice. I don't mean that in a derogatory way just the fact that dealing with problems of a religious nature are a far cry from the problems that crop up daily in a political constituency that is an eclectic mix of all peoples and communities.

I look forward to challenging Rabbi Plancey during the course of the 3 week campaign and will be asking him some searching questions during the run up to polling day on the 22nd October.

I will publish more on this regularly over the coming days.
